Uncover The Darkness

Uncover the Darkness

Dr. Mel Bison

Everyone has a darkness. We all have times in our lives in which we feel as though a breaking point has been reached and we just can’t take one more thing. Yet we wake up another day and press the repeat button but this time without emotions. Feelings are set way deep, back in a place hidden from everyone including ourselves. So why do we have feelings anyway if we try to run away from it?

The answer is simple. We use emotions everyday but we try to keep it on the surface by using four basic descriptors within these realms which are happy, mad, fear, and sad; everything else in between is foreign. How often do you hear in daily conversation someone say, “Wow I feel so melancholy today” or “I am feeling so smug right now”? When we have conversations with one another and someone asks, “How are you?” The usual response is, “I am fine”. However, the definition of fine loosely means “f” up, irrational, neurotic, and emotional. Wow, what a huge meaning for such a small but powerful descriptive word. So why do we do this to ourselves? What’s the big cover up? The answer is we don’t want to share our feelings because we don’t even understand what is going on below the surface let alone how to explain it to another individual.

In order to begin evolving into a insightful mortal the first step is getting to know who you really are and that means digging deep into areas in which you may have hidden not only from others but also from yourself. The next step is educating yourself on emotions and grasping a functioning daily vocabulary you feel comfortable in using. As we start to grow, changes follow and not only do we see ourselves transforming others will start to notice as well. Uncovering the darkness with the new light of hope is something we can all strive for. All it takes is sparking the fire, having the desire, and keeping the faith that change can be accomplished.
