Why CBD?
Why CBD?
There has been so much talk in the last several months about CBD it is about time to venture into the research aspects of it all. For many, just hearing the term cannabinoid immediately screams red flags in the mental health and addiction world. However, not all who utilize these medicinal products are impacted by abuse or dependency. In fact, there has been a myriad of anecdotal and medical journal reports throughout the globe indicating positive outcomes on the human body.
For example, a recent study out of Stanford University, released results stated in severe childhood epilepsies all of the subjects had considerable decline in their severe seizure disorder (Jacobson, C., Porter, B., retrieved May 17, 2017). In addition, it was also notated there was “very few negative side effects and the side effects most often reported were better mood, increased alertness, and better sleep and drowsiness” (Jacobson, et al, 2017).
So how does CBD work in the body? CBD essentially becomes friendly with ECS (endocannabinoid system) complimenting ECS which is a set of cellular receptors and modulatory lipids in the body. There is indication ECS has a part in pain, appetite, memory, metabolism, stress response, immune function, female reproduction, autonomic nervous system function, thermoregulation, and even sleep. Due to this mediation, it does interact with GABA, norepinephrine, opioid receptors, and 5-HT1A receptors which helps in reducing pain and symptoms of anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, and social anxiety as well.
What are some of the therapeutic indications you ask? Well, lots of course! Some of the reported benefits when taking CBD as a preventative included anti-emetic, anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressant, anti-convulsant, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, anti-psychotic, antioxidant, anti-tumoral, neuroprotectant, anti-degenerative, and spermatogenesis to just name a few.
I’m going to start taking this right now! Well hold on, for a hot minute! As with any preventative whether it is a western science or holistic naturopathic medication you should always speak with a licensed medical care provider. All medications can have an impact upon one another so you want to ensure you are improving not de-compensating your condition. You are your own best advocate so read, read, and read even more from creditable sources. Once, you have your documented arsenal then go in for your appointment.
Good luck on your journey for healthy living!
